Barrington police confirmed that the home where some local teenagers gathered a short time before they were involved in a serious car accident on Sowams Road late last month, was also the same house where three teenagers had been arrested for underage drinking back in Sept. 2015.

On Friday, Oct. 28, Barrington police responded to a single car accident on Sowams Road near the Johannis Farm property. The department's investigation led back to a home on Old Forge Road, off New Meadow Road, where it is alleged some teenagers had gathered after the high school football game.

That same house was reportedly the scene of an underage drinking party on Sept. 22, 2015. According to police, officers responded to the house at about 10 p.m. because of a noise complaint. "When officers arrived at the home they found teenagers in the yard and some inside the residence. One of the teens outside appeared to be badly intoxicated; other kids at the party fled into the woods when they saw the police officers," stated the police report in the Times.

Police charged three teenagers, including an 18-year-old resident.

During last month's incident, Barrington police said there were no parents at the house, although an older sibling of one of the high school students was there. Police said a 17-year-old Barrington girl stopped by the home and later left; four 17-year-old Barrington boys went with the girl in her car.

A short while after leaving the house, the car carrying the local teens drove off Sowams Road and smashed into a tree.

"Five patients total were transported with serious but non life threatening injuries," wrote a fire department official. "The Jaws of Life were used to cut the driver out."

Police said residents came to the aid of the teenagers following the crash and reported smelling the odor of alcohol and marijuana coming from the teenagers.

Barrington police charged the Barrington girl with DUI-first offense, refusal to take a chemical test, possession of alcohol by an underage person, possession of false identification (2 counts), and roadway violations. Police said the girl had two fake IDs in her wallet, and officers found a half-empty bottle of cognac inside the car.

No one else has been charged yet, although Barrington Police Chief John LaCross said during an earlier interview that the department was taking a closer look at the incident.

"We are actively investigating what happened at the house," he said.
