LARCENY

On June 6 at approximately 8:40 a.m., Officer Christian Vargas was dispatched to the Gorton Junior High School at 150 Draper Ave. for the report of a storage shed having been broken into. Several pieces of lawn equipment were allegedly stolen, which was reported by the maintenance supervisor for the Warwick School Department.

Upon arrival, the officer met with the reporting party. He pointed out a large shed between the School Department Annex and Gorton Junior High School containing lawn equipment. The complainant stated that there were two Stihl weed whackers, a snow blower, a push mower, two five-gallon cans of gasoline, and a box of tools that had been taken from the shed. There was also a large Yazoo brand ride on mower seen outside the shed with a piece of 4’ x 8’ plywood directly in front of it. The ride on mower was reported as very wide and extremely heavy. Due to a hydraulic system, it had to be running in order for it to move and it could not be pushed. It was believed that the suspects left the equipment after possible failed attempts to load it. Officer Vargas checked the shed and could not find the lock, which appeared to be pried off of the barn doors securing the shed. Detectives were contacted and Detective McHale arrived on scene and took pictures. Detectives seized a can, which appeared to have been recently used, while Officer Vargas canvassed the neighborhood. A resident who lives near the school stated that he did not hear anything but had been up since 5:00 a.m. and he did see a forest green truck drive to the back of the school twice. He did not indicate if he saw any equipment in the back of it. The witness stated that he observed the vehicle between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. Officer Vargas learned from the reporting party that they were alerted to the incident by a school employee who lives nearby. She discovered the open shed at 7:30 a.m. as she was walking on the school property.

OBTAINING FOOD WITH INTENT TO DEFRAUD

At approximately 11:15 p.m. on June 25, Officer Mathew Smith responded to All Stars Bar & Grill on Airport Road for the report of alleged food evasion. Upon his arrival he met with the bartender, who stated that on June 25, two white females with blonde hair presumed to be in their thirties ordered a total of 8 alcoholic beverages. The bartender stated that the drinks were: Loose Cannon (x2) valued at $7.90, Bud Light Bottle (x3) valued at $10.50, and Jameson’s (x3) valued at $18.30 for a combined total of $39.64 with tax. The bartender stated that the two females, after having consumed the alcoholic beverages, exited All Stars Bar & Grill, allegedly without paying their tab. The bartender said that she observed the females enter a newer model silver sedan. According to the report, procedural checks showed that car was no longer actively registered and that is was previously registered to a 2002 gray Acura out of Providence. Providence police were requested to check on the residence of the registered vehicle owner to see if it was there. The bartender stated that on behalf of All Stars Bar & Grill, they wished to pursue a criminal complaint.

The vehicle was identified as a 2006, gray, Chrysler Pacifica. He stated that he put his tablet in his vehicle when he got home from work around 6:30 p.m. On June 21, he left for work and stopped at the Cumberland Farms on Post Rd. near Route 37 where he continued towards work in East Providence, stopping at Dunkin Donuts in East Providence. OPERATING UNDER A FOREIGN LICENSE

On June 22, at approximately 11:32 a.m., Officer Aaron Kay was working a speed detail in marked police unit traveling east on East Ave. near CCRI when he observed the vehicle traveling in front of him bearing a Massachusetts registration. According to the report, the vehicle began veering to the right and changed from the left to right lane without utilizing a turn signal in heavy traffic. After initiating a traffic stop, he spoke with the operator, identified as John Nardone, 23, of 10 Cottage Street in Wakefield, and advised him of the reason for the stop. Nardone stated he thought he used the turn signal, and indicated that he was heading back to work behind crown Plaza. After checking Nardone information on his laptop, Officer Kay found he had and active MA license. However, after a driving history query, it showed that his MA license had suspended rights in RI. According to the report, the operator was issued a violation on October 17 by the State Police. The license was suspended on January 4 for failure to pay the fine. Nardone was unaware; he stated that he might have gotten a speeding ticket that he forgot to pay. Officer Kay advised John that his rights to Operate in Rhode Island were suspended and he was issued a violation for operating under a foreign license during suspension. He was advised to appear in District Court on July 20 at 9 a.m. or a warrant could be issued for his arrest. Nardone was near the parking lot of the Crown Plaza. He pulled onto the property and was going to make arrangements to get home afterwards.
