RESISTING ARREST

Lieutenant Joseph Salvadore was on patrol in the area of 1025 Plainfield Street on August 17 at approximately 8:04 p.m. when he observed Hendrick Da Cruz, 25, of 6 Bolden Street in Pawtucket, walking westbound. According to the police report, Cruz is known to frequent the area of Evan Street as he has a girlfriend living in the area.

Background checks on Da Cruz revealed an active Superior Court bench warrant for failure to appear originating from a possession of a stolen motor vehicle charge. Da Cruz was then detained in the area of 1083 Plainfield Street. Lieutenant Salvadore then began to speak with him, and ordered Da Cruz to place his hands behind his back. Da Cruz then pushed the lieutenant away and ran westbound on Plainfield Street. Additional officers then arrived on scene to provide assistance.

Officer David Galligan and Lieutenant Salvadore gave chase and caught Da Cruz in the area of 1135 Plainfield Street where he continued to physically resist. He was eventually taken to the ground and secured in restraints after the struggle. No officers were injured however Da Cruz sustained a minor cut under his chin.

Cruz was transported to police headquarters, processed, and later transported to the Third District Court for arraignment. He was charged with obstructing a police officer, resisting arrest, simple assault and disorderly conduct.

SLUMPED OVER

Patrolman Christopher Rotella was dispatched to Warren Avenue on August 17 around 2 a.m. for a report of a suspicious black vehicle pared in the area. At the scene the officer observed a black Cadillac Escalade running with its reverse lights illuminated and a white male slumped over in the driver’s seat asleep. Officer Rotella shook the operator, later identified as Joshua Farrales, 25, of 40 Alpine Estates Drive in Cranston, to get his attention.

According to the police report, Officer Rotella placed the car in park and turned the vehicle off. He then ordered Farrales out of the vehicle. Farrales appeared disoriented when he was asked questions about his whereabouts. He stated that he was headed to Smithfield Road in North Providence to drop a laptop off to a friend. When asked if he had consumed any alcohol, he replied “I am extremely fatigued.”

Based on his observations, Officer Rotella summoned Johnston Rescue to check on Farrales. He was then checked and cleared by fire personnel.

During the stop, a grey pistol carry case was observed sticking out from an unzipped backpack resting on the passenger’s seat. A 9mm Smith and Wesson firearm with the action locked to the rear with two magazines in the carry case was seized and placed in the police cruiser for safety. The vehicle was then thoroughly searched, and no additional weapons or items of value were found. Farrales was then taken into custody and brought to police headquarters while his car was towed.

Farrales was charged with one count of possession of a firearm without a license and held for the next session of Third District Court.

POSSESSION OF STOLEN MOTORCYCLE

On August 19 at approximately 8:46 p.m. Kyle Cheshier, 22, of 19 Chestnut Street in Johnston, was arrested for operating a stolen motorcycle. He was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and driving with a stolen license, first offense. He was also the subject of an active bench warrant for violation of probation. He was arraigned on August 20 by Justice of the Peace Solomon with surety bail set at $3,000 and remanded to the ACI.

NORTH PROVIDENCE WARRANT

At approximately 11:25 p.m. on August 18, Officer Arthur Petteruti and Lieutenant Joseph Salvadore observed a black Infiniti occupied by two males parked on the side of the roadway in the area of Killingly Street at Sunset Avenue. Both officers had knowledge that the operator, identified as Bryan Lora Pena, 20, of 70 Robert Circle in Cranston, was the subject of an active North Providence Police arrest warrant for receiving stolen goods.

Both men were detained, and the North Providence Police confirmed that the arrest warrant was active. Pena was arrested without incident while his passenger was dispersed from the scene. Pena was transported to police headquarters where he has processed and later turned over to the custody of the North Providence Police.

SUPERIOR COURT WARRANT

While on patrol on Hartford Avenue on August 18, Officer Joseph Salvadore observed a car traveling westbound with dark window tint. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver, identified as Arnaldo A. Irizzary Rivera, 36, of 750 Atwells Avenue Apt. 3 in Providence, was found to have an active Superior Court bench warrant for failure to appear for a possession of narcotics charge.

He was placed under arrest, brought to police headquarters where he was processed, and later transported to the ACI Intake center. Rivera was issued a verbal warning regarding his motor vehicle violation and his car was driven away by a licensed operator.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

While on patrol on August 18 just after noon, Patrolman David Galligan observed a driver not wearing his seatbelt. A traffic stop was initiated near 20 John Street, where contact was made with Alexander Colon, 20, of 158 Pleasant Street in Cranston. A background check on Colon found that he had a suspended license. He was issued a Johnston Municipal Court summons for no seat belt, and a Third District Court notice for driving on a suspended license. His vehicle was then towed from the scene.
