Barrington police officers and firefighters conducted an intense search for a missing 12-year-old boy inside Vets Park late Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 21.

A Barrington woman called police at about 3:30 p.m. She said her son had taken the family's dog for a walk inside Veterans Park about 30 minutes earlier, but had not come home. She was concerned he had gotten lost, and was worried that it would be hard to find the boy when it grew darker.

Police officers searched the woods inside Veterans Park, but when they were unable to find the boy and his dog, they called for additional help from the fire department. Despite the intense search, the boy was nowhere to be found.

Eventually, the woman received a call on her cell phone — it was her son. The boy had reportedly gotten confused inside the park and exited the woods at an unfamiliar location. He made his way toward Bluff Road where he asked a resident for help. The boy called his mom from the resident's phone.
