PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth Fire Department will host an open house at the fire station from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15.

Fire Chief Michael Cranson is urging residents to bring their family and friends to visit the fire station and help the department celebrate Fire Prevention Week.

“Take a tour of the station, view our apparatus, which includes two, 2011 E1 pumpers and a 95-foot tower ladder,” Chief Cranson said. “Check out our three ambulances and two boats that are housed here. Firefighters will be on hand to answer questions about the day-to-day operations of the department, and how the department responds to emergency calls. Fire prevention education will be available, and kids will be provided with fire safety coloring books.”

Visitors can take a tour of the town’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC), located upstairs in the station. The town’s emergency management director will be on hand to answer questions about the EOC and how it functions during a large scale emergency such as a hurricane.

Children can look through the trucks and have an opportunity to use a real fire hose. Light food will also be provided and there is no cost.
