Police responded to Glen Farm around 9:10 a.m. to investigate a report of vandalism to the polo fields. Police observed multiple tire tracks that had caused heavy damage to the turf. The vandalism took place sometime between 3 p.m. on Dec. 19 and 9 a.m. on Dec. 20.

Kile J. Paul, 31, of 308 Ferry St., Fall River, was charged at 10:37 a.m. with domestic assault after witnesses told police they observed him strike a female passenger while he was driving on East Main Road near Linden Lane. The witnesses, who were STAT Ambulance Service employees traveling behind Mr. Paul’s car, said the vehicle continued to operate erratically, running a red light at the intersection of East Main Road and Aquidneck Avenue in Middletown. Police in that town pulled the car over on East Main Road and were soon joined by Portsmouth Police, but by that time the alleged victim was driving the car and said she had dropped off Mr. Paul at a construction site earlier. Middletown police later found Mr. Paul and he was transferred into Portsmouth’s custody.

Mark B. Hassan, 23, of 745 Union St., was charged around 7 a.m. with larceny of a controlled substance, a felony. An arrest warrant was issued and police picked up Mr. Hassan at his home. Police said Mr. Hassan also had two active Superior Court felony warrants and a 2nd District Court warrant for his arrest.

A Child Street resident told police someone had entered his vehicle and damaged the interior the day before. A built-in Pioneer dash display screen in his utility vehicle had been smashed and a Boyo backup camera knocked off the dashboard with its wiring ripped out, police said.

Sarah E. Berryman, 35, of 27 Anelia St., Somerset, was charged around 11:30 p.m. with driving while intoxicated and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Police said they stopped her car on East Main Road near the Aquidneck Christian Academy because it had left the lane of travel.

Monday, Dec. 26

James A. Maria, 25, of 134 Schoolhouse Lane, was charged at 3:50 p.m. with domestic assault, domestic vandalism with malicious injury to property and domestic disorderly conduct. Police responded to his home at about 3:15 p.m. for a report of a domestic assault in progress between a male and female. Police said Mr. Maria got into an argument with a 22-year-old woman over his playing of video games when he started to beat her, break things inside his bedroom and punch a wall. Police said Mr. Maria was later taken by the Fire Department to Newport Hospital for an evaluation after he used a long string he had retrieved from his waistband and tied it around his neck while he was in a holding cell at the police station. Police used a knife to remove the string.
