Portsmouth Police arrest woman on narcotics charge

Drugs found in secret electronic compartment, police say

PORTSMOUTH — A 37-year-old Providence woman was arrested Wednesday on narcotics charges, a result of a joint investigation between the Portsmouth and Newport police departments.

According to Portsmouth Detective Lt. Michael C. Arnold, Josmaira Martinez, of 46 Home Ave., was charged with possession with intent to deliver cocaine and fentanyl/heroin. 

At about 2 p.m. on Oct. 11, Ms. Martinez’s vehicle was stopped in the area of Park Avenue at Cottage Avenue, Lt. Arnold said.

Ms. Martinez was questioned and a search of the vehicle revealed a hidden electronic compartment that contained 58 grams of cocaine and 28 grams of fentanyl/heroin that was individually packaged, along with $1,060 in cash, he said.

The street value of the illicit narcotics was estimated to be $8,600, Lt. Arnold said.

Ms. Martinez was scheduled to be arraigned at 2nd District Court in Newport Thursday morning.

Saturday, Oct. 7

Kyle Peter Bartis-Johnston, 25, of 26 Elaine Ave., was charged with domestic kidnapping, domestic assault, and domestic refusal to relinquish a telephone. Police made the arrest shortly after 7 a.m. when they responded to his home to serve an arrest warrant.

Arianna Spano, 19, of 25 Maize Corn Road, was charged with underage possession of alcohol after police responded to the Glen Manor House on Frank Coelho Drive at about 6 p.m. for a report of someone disturbing the peace.

Nicole Brown, 23, of 25 South Grove Ave., Warren, was arrested on a warrant for a domestic assault charge around 6:25 p.m.

Sunday, Oct. 8

Matthew P. Bouchard, 35, of 39 Island Road, Swansea, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) at about 12:30 a.m. Police stopped his vehicle on West Main Road at Russo Road after receiving a request to check the condition of the operator. Mr. Bouchard was also cited for refusing a chemical test, according to police.

Kerriann Sousa, 41, of 206 Bristol Ferry Road, was arrested at her home on a warrant at about 8:40 a.m.

Russell A. Cordeiro, 55, of 31550 Division St., Deland, Fla., was charged with domestic assault after police responded to a report of a domestic assault and a disturbance at The Beachcomber restaurant and bar on Park Avenue around 9:20 p.m.

Tuesday, Oct. 10

Ross M. Deltoro, 36, of 24 Tobin Lane, Bristol, was charged on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance after police responded to a report of suspicious activity at the Cumberland Farms store at the corner of East Main Road and Stubtoe Lane around 11 p.m.

Wednesday, Oct. 11

Nichol M. Corey, 33, of 23 Stone St., Providence, was charged with disorderly conduct (offensive words at another) after she was picked up on a warrant around 11 p.m. at the North Providence Police Department.
