RIRRC appoints new leadership

Johnston Sun Rise ·

After an extensive six-month search, Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation (RIRRC) recently announced the selection of Joseph Reposa as its new executive director.  Reposa succeeds Mike OConnell, who after 10 years of service, will retire later this month.

“We are extremely excited to have Joseph as our new Executive Director,” said Chairman of the Board of Commissioners for RIRRC Michael F. Sabitoni. “His significant industry experience and proven track record make him the ideal choice to lead our dynamic organization. I am confident that Joseph will take Resource Recovery into its next phase through thoughtful leadership, outreach, and collaboration.”

Reposa has an extensive background and career, having held top executive and management positions in sales, information technology, and operations spanning environmental services and the retail industry. Most recently, Reposa served as the general manager for Waste Management and vice president of marketing for Sears Holdings Corporation. He has his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts and an MBA from Rice University in Houston, Texas.

Joseph Reposa commented, “I am looking forward to working with the Resource Recovery team, its partners and the communities across Rhode Island to continue to provide safe, environmentally responsible and sustainable solid waste services.”

As executive director, Reposa will be responsible for all facets of RIRRC’s operations, strategic direction, financial solvency, and long-term planning. He assumed the executive director role effective June 19.
