Running in the rain

The Cranston Herald ·

The Woodridge Elementary PTO held their 4th annual family friendly, Certified 5K Road Race/Walk. Despite the rain on Saturday, spirits were not dampened. The course included rolling hills in the Dean Estates area of Cranston and for the younger athletes and families they offered a 1K Kids Fun Run prior to the 5K. Mayor Allan Fung began the 5K with a loud air horn. Proceeds benefited the Woodridge PTO Technology Fund.

The winners of the 5K are as follows: Overall Winner was Dave Schaad with a time of 20:40; First Female Winner was Joy Younkin with a time of 21:21; First Male Woodridge Student Winner was Henry Prendergast, a fifth-grade student with a time of 23:20; and First Female Woodridge Student Winner was Lilly Prendergast, a third-grade student, with a time of 28:54.

After the race, they held an "after party" lunch at Thirsty Beaver, 288 Atwood Ave. Participants just had to show their race bib or t-shirt and The Thirsty Beaver donated 20 percent of each bill back to Woodridge Elementary School.
