Sandy Lane fire

Thanks to the actions of an off-duty West Warwick firefighter, a pug dog was rescued from the home at 436 Sandy Lane Tuesday at 4:46 p.m. According to Warwick Battalion Chief Robert Bubar, the off-duty firefighters spotted flames in the adjoining garage and stopped to investigate. Bubar said that Clint Artruc “kicked in the front door and the dog ran out.” Residents of the property were not home at the time and the firefighter established no one else was in the building. Meanwhile, another call was received reporting an oven fire at a nearby Sandy Lane apartment. Bubar feared apparatus could not respond as Sandy Lane was closed because of the initial fire. Fortunately, the fire was contained in the oven and the only causality was a “charred” turkey, he said. The cause of the house fire was being investigated Wednesday. Bubar said Christopher Milewski, Justin Sweeney and Shane Lindell, who later that evening took the oath of office as firefighters, rushed to make the ceremony at the Crowne Plaza.
