The Rhode Island State Fire Marshal's office is investigating a possible arson case at a home on Northwest Passage.

Barrington police and fire officials were at 2 Northwest Passage on Wednesday morning, Nov. 2, investigating a possible breaking and entering at the home and possible arson.

Barrington Fire Chief Gerald Bessette said his department received a call from a Realtor who was listing the house on the market. He said the Realtor believed something suspicious had taken place at the home and wanted local police and fire officials to take a closer look.

Chief Bessette said the case had been handed over to the RI State Fire Marshal's office.

"I thought it was prudent to call in the State Fire Marshal," said Chief Bessette, who could not offer more details about the situation.

Barrington Police Chief John LaCross said his department was also investigating a possible breaking and entering at the home, which had recently been renovated.

The Barrington Times called the state fire marshal inspector, but he has not yet returned the call.
