Swinging the night away

The Providence Federation of Musicians Local 198-457 of the American Federation of Musicians hosted the Cavalcade of Bands this past week at Cranston’s Rhode on the Pawtuxet. Attendees enjoyed dancing to the sounds of swing orchestras in the grand ballroom while smaller jazz ensembles kept the music going in the foyer. The Canary Diamonds, a mother and daughter team with Jeanne Sullivan Evans and Elaine Sullivan, filled Rhodes with the sound of their special duets and jazz favorites. They were accompanied by Joe Holtzman on drums, Sonny Paris on keyboard, and Dick Lupino on bass. Many took to the dance floor during their performance. (Herald photos by Steve Popiel)
