Teenager claims he was attacked behind supermarket

Barrington police responded to a home on St. Andrew's Way on Sunday, June 11, to investigate a possible assault.

A 16-year-old East Providence male was at the Barrington home — his ex-girlfriend's house — and appeared to have a cut on his hand.

The teen had told people at the house that he was "jumped" behind the Shaw's Supermarket in Riverside. That's when the homeowner decided to call police. When officers arrived they asked the teenager what had happened. He reportedly told police that he was in a wooded area near the Shaw's when he was pushed down by two males wearing hooded-sweatshirts. The teenager said he put up his hands to defend himself, and believed that was when his hand was injured.

The teenager said the two male attackers then fled the scene. The teenager told police nothing was said and the attackers took nothing.

Police asked the teen why he had not called 911 and he said he did not think his phone had power. Barrington police then asked the teenager why he went to his ex-girlfriend's house and did not go to his own home. He said he was not sure why he went to her home.

Rescue transported the teenager to the hospital.
