Troop 6 fledges new Eagles

The Cranston Herald ·

Most birds fly in a flock and new Eagle Scouts Anthony Cardi, Constantine George Coclin, Joshua Forgue and Daniel White did just that as they all celebrated their National Eagle High Court of Honor on May 10 at the Church of the Annunciation. All four new Eagle Scouts were from Troop 6 Cranston.

Under the guidance of Jim Bennett, Scoutmaster, each Eagle Scout earned their ranks and completed their community projects. Yet these four friends, who entered the troop around the same time together, decided to celebrate as a group.

Anthony Cardi, a junior at Cranston High School West, is enrolled in the pre-engineering robotics program in the Career & Technical Center. He is also a member of the National Honor Society and is the vice president for his class council. Outside of the classroom, he is a member of the varsity baseball team and has been part of many all star baseball teams representing Cranston and Rhode Island. He is planning on attending URI to study mechanical engineering.

Cardi began in scouting in the first grade and began with Pack 12 Cranston as a tiger cub scout. After earning his Arrow of Light Award, he then joined Troop 6 Cranston. He is in a leadership position as quartermaster and assistant patrol leader currently.

For his service project, which was done at the Cranston Animal Shelter, he selected a design and built a geodesic dome that will serve to be an outside play area for smaller animals. The dome is 9 feet tall and 14 feet wide, constructed by PVC pipe frame and wrapped with vinyl netting. For his project, Cardi received donations from Lowes and a California-based company called Sonostar.

Constantine Coclin of Troop 6 Cranston also earned his Eagle Scout status that evening. His leadership positions with Troop 6 Cranston include instructor and assistant patrol leader.

A junior at Cranston High School West, where he is enrolled in the pre-engineering/robotics program, Coclin is also a member of the National Honor Society and was the 2017 state winner of Skills USA Robotics Urban Search and Rescue competition. He is a member of the Cranston West golf team and second-year vice president on Student Council. He is planning on attending URI as an engineering student.

A volunteer at his church, Coclin is the captain of the alter boys and is an active member of the parish, including performing in the green dance troupe and on the Church Endowment Committee.

He started in scouts when in the first grade as a tiger cub scout, Pack 12 in Cranston. He crossed over to Boy Scouts when in the fifth grade, joining Troop 6 Cranston.

For his service project, Coclin chose to organize a food drive and to refurbish the Interfaith Food Ministry located in Cranston. He organized a team of volunteers, including scouts, family and friends to clean out, reorganize and pain the room in which the food bank operates. Additionally, through donations from his Boy Scout Troop and parish members from the Church of the Annunciation, he was able to provide more food to distribute to needy families.

Joining Cardi and Coclin, Joshua Forgue also celebrated his Eagle Scout ranking. His scouting leadership positions are assistant senior patrol leader, patrol leader, guide and quartermaster.

He studied entrepreneurship at the Cranston area Career & Technical program at Cranston High School West, where he graduated from in 2017. He is currently attending the Community College of Rhode Island and will be transferring to URI for landscaping architecture.  He also owns and operates his own landscaping and plowing company.

Forgue started his journey to Eagle Scout as a tiger cub scout with Cub Scout Pack 2 Cranston and then joined Troop 6 Cranston after earning his Webelos badge and arrow of light award.

For his service project, Forgue helped to refurbish and clean the Oaklawn bike path on behalf of the Oaklawn Grange. With the help of approximately 30 scouts, they were able to clear a new path for walkers, raked over overgrown shrubs, cut brush which all created a much more pleasurable walking area for the residents of Cranston.

The fourth scout to earn his Eagle Scout status that evening was Daniel White, whose leadership positions include scribe, patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, and quartermaster.

He began scouting as a webelo at Pack 12 in 2010 and crossed over to Troop 6 in Cranston in 2012. He is a junior at Cranston High School West and is enrolled in the Career & Technical program. He plans on attending a four-year college. However, he is undecided on a major currently. He is very active at his parish, Holy Apostles Church.

For his project, White was assisted by other scouts cleaning up the historical cemetery located in the John O. Pastore Complex. The graves date back to the late 1800s. The project included meeting and planning the project and involving 12 scouts and 5 adults for assistance. They cleared an area with approximately 300 graves, which included raking leaves, removing brush and bagging all the debris. He also secured donations for leaf bags and lunch and water for the scouts and adults who helped.

All four newly minted Eagle Scouts enjoyed their celebratory evening along with family, friends and peers during the ceremonies. Approximately 100 people attended. Troop 6 Cranston is a part of the Narragansett Council, BSA.
