UPDATE: Still no winner in Bristol Town Administrator race

The state Board of Elections had yet to count absentee ballots as of late Thursday afternoon

It's been two days since the election, and Bristol residents still don't know who their Town Administrator will be — and they may not know until next week.

Tony Teixeira and Steven Contente remain locked in a virtual tie after Tuesday's election. Mr. Contente actually holds a 23-vote lead (4,463 - 4,440), but it's still anyone's race as 934 absentee ballots have yet to be counted.

The state Board of Elections conducted a recount Wednesday on votes cast at the Roger Williams University polling location because of an equipment malfunction, and was initially scheduled to count the absentee ballots Thursday. That had not yet happened as of nearly 4 p.m. Thursday, according to the Bristol Town Clerk's office.

State and local offices are closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day, meaning it could take until Monday before the Board of Elections counts the ballots in its Providence office. Mr. Contente said Wednesday he expects it will be that long before the race is resolved. The board has not announced when the absentee count is scheduled.
