Vets boys' track earns state title

The Warwick Vets Middle School boys’ track team won the state championship held at Narragansett High School on Friday, holding off second-place Davisville Middle School (60 points) with a total of 62 points.

Darius Frey and David Shah sparked Vets to victory.

Frey clinched individual victories in the 1500 and 800, while Shah earned gold in the high jump.

Frey and Shah then teamed up with Justin Dorsey and Teighan Jeremy to finish first in the 4x100.

On the girls’ side, Vets came up just short of earning a state crown, placing second with 41 points behind Martin Middle School, which compiled 47 points.

Olivia Disu was the lone girls’ state champion from Vets, winning the high jump, while Leah Williams was the lone winner overall for Winman, emerging victorious in the javelin.
