Warren group helps others, one skein at a time

Nearly 1,000 cold hands and heads will be warmer this winter, thanks to a group of 14 knitters from Warren and Bristol named Connie’s Kids.

Over the last few years the ‘Kids,” named for their friend, the late Connie Vitullo, have knit thousands of scarves, hats and gloves for the needy, and so far this year they have completed more than 900 items that were distributed Tuesday.

The volunteers’ efforts have helped children at Bradley Hospital, veterans at the Rhode Island Veterans’ Home in Bristol, Head Start Warren, homeless veterans and many more. Ms. Vitullo was the founder of the group since named in her honor, when in 2011 she encouraged a group of women to knit and crochet hats, mittens and lap blankets for charity.

The volunteers meet Tuesdays at the Warren Senior Center, and they use mostly donated yarn and other supplies. Recently the group received a $500 donation from the Barrington-Warren Rotary, which allowed them to purchase yarn. If you have yarn to donate or would like to help the Kids financially, contacted Elizabeth Hogue at 247-1930.
