Warren woman pleads no contest to unemployment fraud

A Warren woman who illegally collected more than $14,000 in unemployment insurance benefits pleaded no contest to the charges in Superior Court lat week.

Susan Brown, 58, did not contest the charge of obtaining money under false pretenses brought against her by the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training. A spokeswoman for attorney general Peter Kilmartin said Ms. Brown collected the unemployment funds between February 2010 and January 2012, while she was employed at Access Healthcare Inc. in Warren.

In addition to paying $14,357 in restitution, she was sentenced to seven years of probation.

The case was initiated by fraud investigators in the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training and then referred to the Rhode Island State Police. Special Assistant Attorney General Carole L. McLaughlin prosecuted the case on behalf of the Attorney General.
