Westport Police say heroin bust led to one unhappy camper

Their search of a Westport property led police to a $1,000 worth of heroin and an angry man in a camper.

On Friday March 31, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Westport Police and Massachusetts State Police conducted a search warrant at 15 Alberto Drive in Westport.

Detective Jeff Majewski said that investigators focused their efforts on 45-year-old Jason Murphy who had been living in a camper on that property.

Westport Detective Robert Rebello and other law enforcement officers found over 150 bags of heroin with an approximate street value of $1,000 dollars inside the camper, Det. Majewski said. Mr. Murphy was arrested and taken to the Westport police station where he was booked.

During the booking process, Mr. Murphy told officers he felt ill and the Westport Fire Department ambulance was called to transport him to Charlton Memorial Hospital. While en-route to the hospital (and still under arrest) he was administered Narcan after police said he became angry and combative and angry. At the hospital, he began spitting and flailing his arms, Det. Majewski said.

Mr. Murphy was released from the hospital and brought back to the police station. He was held on $9,500 cash bail and arraigned at the Fall River Justice Center Tuesday.
