Women's Living Room provides grant to Artists' Exchange

The Cranston Herald ·

The Women’s Living Room meets once a month in Cranston, for two hours of fellowship, supportive conversation, multimedia engagement, and giving. Women are encouraged to give between $5 and $25 per meeting toward the pool. They work together to find new ways to pool their own funds and make their own grants to address whatever needs they see in the community for women and girls.

The group had its first meeting in June and discussed different ideas, including funding for educational scholarships for girls, camps that teach girls leadership to help more women consider running for public office, theater programs that teach leadership and public speaking, and sports for girls.

The group is accepting new members, although those interested must ask to join or receive an invitation from Kiersten Marek, LICSW, who began the group.

At a recent meeting, the group decided to contribute more than $500 to support improvisational theater for girls at The Artists’ Exchange in Cranston. With a total donation of $1,778 through the support of donors, they have already raised $225 in seed money for the next grant.
