ASPCA seeks supply donations to cope with massive Westport animal seizure

WESTPORT, Mass. (WPRI) — The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is hoping the community will help relieve some of the burden it has endured while responding to a large-scale animal abuse investigation in Westport.

Hundreds of animals were found living in squalor on a 70-acre property off American Legion Highway last month.

Last week, ASPCA volunteers spent days removing the animals from the property and announced Monday all of the animals have since been relocated to the organization’s temporary shelter.

“As you can imagine, this is a massive undertaking that requires many responders and supplies. We’re asking the local community to help by donating some specific items needed by the animals and our responders,” Spokesperson Kelly Krause said in a release.

Items needed include:

• Water
• Gatorade
• Paper towels
• Packaged snacks for volunteers
• Work gloves
• Sunscreen
• Bug spray
• 20′ tarps
• Horse corral panels
• Jolly balls (for large animals)
• Pine shavings
• Rope cattle halters

Krause stressed volunteers do not need supplies for cats or dogs.

Anyone able to donate is asked to drop supplies off at the Westport Police Department at 818 Main Road.
