Barrington police charged Jasmine J. Hartsfield, 30, of East Providence, with DUI-first offense, and refusal to submit to chemical test, after she allegedly drove her vehicle the wrong direction on the Wampanoag Trail.

An officer on traffic post on the Wampanoag Trail near Primrose Hill Road reportedly saw Ms. Hartsfield driving her vehicle north in the southbound lane of the Trail at about 3:30 a.m.

The officer quickly ordered Ms. Hartsfield to pull her vehicle to the side of the road.

The police officer said he could smell the odor of alcohol on Ms. Hartsfield's breath, that her speech was slurred and that she had bloodshot eyes. She also reportedly admitted to consuming three mixed drinks that night.

The officer ordered Ms. Hartsfield to perform a field sobriety test; police said she failed the test. She refused to take a breathalyzer test.

She was then charged with DUI-first offense and refusing to submit to a chemical test.
