Bristol Police: Road rage, pool jumpers, stuck raccoon and more

The Bristol Police Department responded to the following calls between July 17 and July 23:

Monday, July 17

Officers helped a raccoon that was stuck in a drain pipe on Bay View Avenue at 7:30 a.m.

A resident on Masterson Street called police because a neighbor had put recycling bins in front of his driveway. Police advised the neighbor.

Officers responded to reports of a fight at Domino’s Pizza on Gooding Avenue just after 9 p.m. The fight turned out to be verbal only.

Tuesday, July 18

Officers responded to reports of a verbal argument between a mother and son on St. Elizabeth Street at 9:30 a.m. There was no arrest made.

Drivers of a black Volvo and a black pickup truck were engaged in a road rage incident at Metacom and Gooding avenues around 3:30 p.m. The driver in the Volvo was reportedly yelling at the pickup truck driver to pull over. Police caught up with the Volvo on Highview Avenue. They filed a report but no arrest was made.

A dog was reportedly locked in a car with the windows rolled up at Stop & Shop on Metacom Avenue at 5 p.m. The car was gone when police arrived. It is illegal in Rhode Island to leave a dog in a car without water and ventilation.

Wednesday, July 19

Officers responded to a possible domestic violence situation on Wood Street around 12:30 p.m. No arrest was made, but officers removed one person from the home.

Another dog was locked in a car with the windows up, this time at CVS on Metacom Avenue just after 1 p.m.

A man was blowing leaves into the road on Hope Street in violation of a town ordinance. The man was advised to clean up the mess.

A group of people was reportedly swimming in a home’s pool on Coggeshall Avenue while the homeowners were out of town. The group was gone when police arrived.

Thursday, July 20

A gray pickup truck was reportedly stopped at the top of the Mt. Hope Bridge around 4 p.m. It was gone when officers arrived.

A caller reported a group of suspicious men in the area around Siegel Street just after 9 p.m. There was no arrest made, and no indication why the resident found the men suspicious.

Police helped a runaway teen from North Providence who had approached a Bristol resident for help on Wood Street just after 10 p.m.

Police removed an intoxicated man from a bar on Thames Street.

Friday, July 21

A man was walking on the Mt. Hope Bridge at 11:30 a.m., reportedly to retrieve an item that had flown out his window while he was driving over it. Pedestrians are not allowed on the two-lane span.

Another pedestrian was removed from the bridge at 5 p.m.
a gray mountain bike was reportedly stolen on Siegel Street.

A citation was issued after a resident complained of unregistered cars in a neighbor’s yard on Lafayette Drive, a violation of a town ordinance.

Saturday, July 22

A resident on Franklin Street called police just before 8 a.m. to complain of construction workers beginning before the allowed time. The workers were advised to wait.

A group of men were reportedly “engaged in narcotics activity” at Shaws Lane and Ryan Avenue at 2 p.m. They were gone when police arrived.

A resident on Sousa Street complained of fireworks in the area just before 9 p.m. The complaint was unfounded, as are many calls to Sousa Street for neighbor complaints.

Sunday, July 23

A bicycle was reportedly stolen from Town Common.

A caller reported an unknown woman placed a suspicious item underneath a light post at Walgreens on Metacom Avenue around 3:30 p.m. There was nothing there when officers arrived.

Police responded to a disagreement “over fishing” on Lower Ferry Road. There was no police action needed.

Another fireworks complaint was called in from Sousa Street, this time at 8:30 p.m. Again, it was unfounded.
