Bristol Police: Sudden death, Drunk with stroller, blind raccoon

The Bristol Police Department responded to the following calls between July 25 and July 31:

Tuesday, July 25

An unresponsive man was discovered in a home on Lincoln Avenue around 4 p.m. The case was deemed a sudden death, and a funeral home company responded.

A group of chickens was on the loose on Naomi Street just before 6 p.m. An officer assisted.

A reportedly drunk man was pushing a small child in a stroller at Bradford and Wood streets around 8 p.m. A patrolman escorted the child to Hasbro Children’s Hospital. There was no arrest made.

Reports of a shouting match between a man and a woman on Wood Street at 8:30 p.m. turned out to be a man calling his dog.

Wednesday, July 26

A man and woman were reportedly arguing in the road on State Street at 2:30 a.m. They were gone when police arrived.

Police responded to complaints of a suspicious man on Aaron Avenue just before 9 p.m. and on Casey Drive at 9:30 p.m. In both cases, the man was gone when officers arrived.

Two residents called police to report a man soliciting door-to-door in violation of a town ordinance.

Thursday, July 27

A raccoon was reportedly stumbling around Kingwood Road with a can stuck on its head at 5 a.m. A patrolman caught the animal and contact the state Department of Environmental Management, which was due to respond after 7 a.m.

A resident on Church Street called police to report a strange smell in the neighborhood around 9:30 a.m. A neighbor’s trash cans had been left uncovered.

Two pedestrians were spotted walking across the Mt. Hope Bridge and were escorted off. Pedestrians are not allowed on the two-lane span.

A resident reported motorcycles being raced up and down Bay View Avenue at 1 p.m. The complaint was unfounded.

Loud bangs reported in the area of Clipper way remained unexplained.

A group of “suspicious” teenagers were reportedly hanging out in the area of Chestnut and Hope streets at 6:30 p.m. Police transported two to Washington Street and another to High Street.

A couple hours later, a group of teenagers reportedly attempted to break into a cottage behind a home on Pleasant Street. Police are investigating.

A resident at Hope and Washington streets called police to complain about a flatbed truck hooking up a truck to be towed at 9:30 p.m. An officer assisted.

Friday, July 28

A reportedly drunk man was driving a red van on Metacom Avenue just before midnight. Police checked the area but were unable to find the van.

A resident on Mt. Hope Avenue complained of a car parked in front of her home just after 2 p.m. There was no police action required.

Police broke up a fight on the basketball court at Town Common just before 11 p.m.

Saturday, July 29

Officers responded to a domestic dispute on Fatima Drive just after 3 p.m. A man reported his ex-wife was removing furniture form the home. Police filed a report but no arrest was made.

A resident on Harrison Street complained of multiple cars parked illegally on his street at 9 p.m. Police checked, finding all cars were legally parked.

Sunday, July 30

The tires were slashed on a car on Bourne Street.

Two juveniles were spotted at State and Goulart avenues at 3:15 a.m. Police brought them to the female juvenile’s home, where they were released to her parents’ custody.

A resident on Wapping Drive reported gunshots in the neighborhood just before 7:30 a.m. Police investigated, determining the shots were coming from a water cannon.

Monday, July 31

Police dispersed a man who was reportedly “working out of his van attempting to purchase text books” around 1 p.m. on Lower Ferry Road.

Police responded to calls of a fight at Rock Street and Shaws Lane just after 5:30 p.m. Rescue personnel were called to evaluate one of the combatants, but no arrest was made.
