Bristol Police: ‘Suspicious’ characters, street furniture, bridge walker

The Bristol Police Department responded to the following calls between Feb. 27 and March 5:

Monday, Feb. 27

Police responded to town ordinance violations of an unregistered car on Wall Street and a couch on the sidewalk on Wood Street. The car was in the process of being donated, and the couch owner agreed to move the furniture.

A man in an orange vest claiming to be from “Town Square Energy” had no credentials while soliciting business on Corte Real Drive around 2:30 p.m. He was dispersed and informed of the town ordinance prohibiting solicitation without a permit.

Tuesday, Feb. 28

Officers responded to a narcotics report at Mt. Hope High School at 11:20 a.m. Police filed a report but no arrest was made.

A car was reportedly vandalized on Captain Street.

A woman wearing a yellow sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and brown boots was walking on Mt. Hope Bridge at 8 p.m. Portsmouth Police met her on that side of the bridge, which is off limits to pedestrians.

A group of men were reportedly yelling and screaming in the road on First Street just after 9 p.m. They were gone when police arrived.

Wednesday, March 1

A bicycle was reportedly stolen on Hope Street just before 3 p.m.

Thursday, March 2

A car was reportedly speeding on Sousa Street around 10 p.m., according to a caller. The car was gone when officers arrived.

Friday, March 3

Nicholas D. Marine, 29, of 21 San Jose Drive, was cited for drinking alcohol in public.

A suspicious man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt was reportedly spotted in the woods behind homes on Elbow Street at 11 a.m. He was gone when officers arrived.

A caller reported seeing a suspicious black pickup truck with white hubcaps on Poppasquash Road around 5 p.m. Police could not find the truck. There was no indication what made the caller think the truck was suspicious.

A resident on St. Elizabeth Street called police because neighbors were making too much noise walking home around 11:30 p.m. There was no problem.

Saturday, March 4

Police investigated several suspicious activity reports between midnight and 2 a.m. at Independence Park, the Mt. Hope Boat Ramp, on Tupelo Street and on Hope Street. There were no arrests made.

Officers issued warnings to reckless drivers on Metacom Avenue, the Mt. Hope Bridge and Mt. Hope Avenue.

Sunday, March 5

A resident on High Street complained of a neighbor’s loud music at 10 a.m. There was no music when police arrived.
Police assisted with a chimney fire on Aaron Avenue just before 8 p.m.
