Johnston Sun Rise ·

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and its local partners will host Hiring Our Heroes, a hiring fair for veterans and military spouses, on Tuesday, October 18 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Warwick National Guard Armory, 541 Airport Road, Warwick.

More than 50 local and national employers are expected to participate with jobs available for veterans and military spouses of all ranks and levels of experience. Before the hiring fair, an 8:30 a.m. employment workshop for job seekers will cover a variety of topics including resume building, networking, and interview tips. Immediately following the workshop, volunteer career coaches will be available to all job seekers who want to develop an elevator pitch, participate in a mock interview, and create a more effective resume. At 9 a.m., employers are invited to a brunch and learn focused on best practices for recruiting, hiring, and retaining veterans and military spouses.

Launched in 2011, Hiring Our Heroes is a nationwide initiative to help veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses find meaningful employment. Working with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s vast network of state and local chambers and other strategic partners from the public, private and nonprofit sectors, Hiring Our Heroes has helped hundreds of thousands of veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment through more than 1,000 job fairs in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia, and on military installations overseas; a suite of free online resources; and the Hiring 500,000 Heroes campaign.

Interested job seekers should pre-register online at www.hiringourheroes.org. Veterans must provide proof of service.
