Photos from the deep freeze: harbors and rivers of ice
Kristina Zimbalist of Bristol took this photo of the sun rising over an icy Bristol Harbor Wednesday morning. The view is from the Point Pleasant Inn off Poppasquash Road, facing east.
Mathewson Road resident Paul Blasbalg captured this photograph of a frozen Barrington Harbor last weekend. "Only the second time in 25 years living on Mathewson Road that the harbor has frozen over," wrote Mr. Blasbalg. "Pretty cool sight. The ice is quite powerful and some docks unfortunately are no match for it."

An extended period of deep, freezing temperatures — with daytime air in single digits and wind chills below zero — has created sights, sounds and vistas rarely seen anymore.
Residents here are not used to seeing the Palmer River freeze, Hundred Acre Cove locked in ice, or Bristol Harbor a solid sheen of frozen salt water.
