Police seek suspect in armed assault, robbery

Cranston police are asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect in a recent armed robbery and assault at the Route 95 overpass on Wellington Avenue.

According to police, the incident occurred at approximately 7 a.m. on Sept. 24. The victim is said to have been walking north when he was approached by the suspect, who “brandished a black semi-automatic styled handgun and demanded money.” The suspect is said to have assaulted the victim and struck him with the weapon.

The suspect is described as a male in his late 20s or early 30s, of average height and weight, with black facial hair. At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing a dark baseball cap, a dark T-Shit, white plaid shorts, and black sneakers. Police additionally believe the suspect fled the scene heading north toward Providence in a silver Saturn Vue SUV, with a model year of 2005 to 2007.

Cranston woman indicted on drug charges

The Providence County Grand Jury has indicted a Cranston resident on multiple drug charges.

The indictment against Rony Martinez Pereyra, 44, of 85 Lawrence St., was reported out last week and announced by the office of Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin. She is charged with one count each of possession of more than five kilos of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of a firearm while possessing a controlled substance with intent to deliver, and possession of fentanyl with intent to deliver.

According to the attorney general’s announcement, Martinez Pereyra was found in possession of more than five kilos of marijuana, fentanyl, and a .357 Magnun in July of this year as part of a Rhode Island State Police investigation. She was due to be arraigned in Superior Court on Oct. 7.
