That’s a wrap

Explorers prepare 1,000 presents for needy kids

Allegra Graziano put things into perspective last Thursday as she participated in the Johnston Police Explorers Post 405 annual Christmas Present Wrapping Party.

“It’s Christmas time; you have to be happy and grateful,” said Graziano, who was recently promoted to the rank of Major in the Explorers.

The wrapping party culminates the Johnston Police Department’s “Toys for Kids” drive, which collects new, unwrapped toys for Johnston children in need. People who attended the wrapping party were treated to food and refreshments.

“We always get a good turnout of people who want to help; everyone knows the importance of this program,” said George Arakelian III.

When all was said and done, JPD Captain Marc Boisvert, who coordinates the Explorers Post 405, said the department wrapped nearly 1,000 presents, small and large, in just over three hours.

“They are special gifts for children who otherwise wouldn’t have a Merry Christmas,” said Gina Sabitoni Arakelian.
