Vandals cause ‘significant’ damage at Warwick North Little League field

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Vandals who targeted Warwick North’s Westside complex Monday night left more than a path of destruction – they left behind video evidence of their crime.

According to Softball President Carlos Rodas, the vandals destroyed several surveillance cameras at the complex, known as “The Pit” – ripping some of the devices right off the walls and smashing others.

One of the vandals was even seen mugging for the camera.

Rodas – who said police are involved in the case – believes the person in the video probably didn’t realize there would still be a video feed, even after the camera was destroyed.

The league installed the cameras this spring after a break-in at the snack shack following opening day festivities.

The vandalism is a dark spot for a league that’s had an amazing summer filled with championships for both its baseball and softball teams.

Rodas just returned home with his team from Washington State, where they finished third in the Softball Junior World Series. The 11/12 boys – fresh off a state championship – are in Bristol, Connecticut for regionals and hope to make it to the Little League World Series. The Warwick North 11/12 girls also won states and fell just short of returning to the Little League Softball World Series for a second year. They finished third in Bristol.
